Privacy Policy
What we collect, what we do with it, and who can see it.
I’m The People is not open yet, so today we only hold what you send through the pre-registration and contact forms. The rest of this page describes what will apply once the app opens.
If you pre-register
We keep your email address, your name if you give one, and the date you signed up. We use them only to tell you when I’m The People opens and how to join. We do not sell or share them, and we do not ask about your politics. They are stored in this website’s database with our hosting provider. To have yours removed, contact us.
If you contact us
We keep your name, your email address and your message in this website’s database, and a copy is emailed to us so we can reply. We use them only to answer you.
What we collect once the app opens
- Your name, username and email address when you join. Your password is stored in a scrambled (hashed) form, never as plain text.
- Optional profile details: where you place yourself politically, the issues you care about, and a short bio.
- The convictions you share, including the issue, your position and your own words.
- The messages you send in conversations, and the statements you write or confirm.
- Who you have blocked, and any reports you make or that are made about you.
Who can see it
- Your name, username, leaning, bio and convictions are visible to signed-in members.
- Your email address is not shown to other members.
- Your conversations are visible to the two people in them. They are stored on our servers and are not end-to-end encrypted. If one of you reports a conversation, moderators can read it.
- A statement both people confirm is public, on the Common Ground page, with both leanings and the date but without your names. Either of you can take it back.
How AI is used
The first version of the app makes introductions with plain rules and no AI. If we add an AI service later, we will update this page first, naming the service and what it receives. Your private conversation messages are not sent to any AI service.
Website analytics
This public website uses Google Analytics to count visits. It sets cookies and sends Google standard data such as the pages viewed, the referring site and your approximate location. It does not run inside the app, and it never sees your convictions, conversations or statements.
